Significant MSP Increase for Rabi Crops
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a notable hike in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops. Additionally, Gram will see a rise of ₹210, while Wheat gets ₹150, Safflower ₹140, and Barley ₹130 per quintal. Margins Over Production Costs
This decision aligns with the government’s promise from the 2018-19 Union Budget to set MSP at least 1.5 times the average cost of production. Wheat farmers can now expect a margin of 105% over their production costs, with rapeseed and mustard farmers getting 98%. Lentil offers an 89% margin, while Gram, Barley, and Safflower provide margins ranging from 50% to 60%.
