The inaugural edition of the Cine Shala International Film Festival concluded successfully on 19 April 2026, marking the end of an inspiring two-day celebration of cinema, creativity, and learning. Organized by Arunuj Films, Delhi, the festival took place at Surya Sadhana Sthali, Jhijholi, Haryana, and welcomed aspiring filmmakers from across the country. More than just a film festival, the event created an environment where young storytellers could showcase their work, receive expert guidance, exchange ideas, and experience the collaborative spirit that defines filmmaking.
The festival featured screenings of officially selected short fiction and documentary films submitted by students and independent filmmakers. Participants had the opportunity to watch each other’s work while engaging in meaningful discussions about the creative process, technical execution, and the real-world challenges encountered during production. Learning Beyond the Screen: Workshops and Industry Insights
One of the defining aspects of the festival was its strong emphasis on education and professional development. Film director Anuj Kumar Roy conducted several interactive sessions where selected films were reviewed in detail. He highlighted both the strengths and areas for improvement, encouraging participants to refine their storytelling techniques and filmmaking skills. Discussions also explored the essential elements that make a compelling short fiction or documentary film, providing valuable insights for emerging creators.
Students from 19 different colleges participated by submitting their films, demonstrating the growing interest in independent filmmaking among young creators. To ensure a comfortable experience, accommodation was arranged for all selected teams, allowing participants to immerse themselves fully in the festival activities.
The educational sessions extended beyond filmmaking techniques. A Creative Producer from Stage OTT guided participants on preparing effective story pitch decks, approaching OTT platforms, and understanding how stories can secure funding and reach wider audiences. Cinematographer Rakesh Kumar delivered an engaging session on camera techniques and cinematography, helping students understand the technical aspects of visual storytelling.
The festival also welcomed Sandeep Gupta, Founder of Camorent, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the audience, he encouraged young filmmakers to embrace mistakes as stepping stones to success, reminding them that every great filmmaker grows through experimentation, persistence, and continuous learning.
A Festival That Blended Cinema with Community
While cinema remained the heart of the event, the festival also celebrated community building through a range of cultural, recreational, and wellness activities. Participants enjoyed games such as tug of war, treasure hunts, volleyball, and one-minute performances, creating opportunities for networking beyond formal sessions. Wellness activities including eye wash therapy, mud baths, and evening aarti further enriched the overall experience, giving attendees moments to relax, reflect, and connect with fellow filmmakers.
Festival Director Princy Rani emphasized that the primary objective of the festival was to provide students with a meaningful platform where they could not only present their films but also gain practical industry exposure. According to her, many young filmmakers create excellent films but often lack knowledge about distribution, funding opportunities, and professional networking. The festival was designed to bridge this gap by bringing industry professionals and aspiring filmmakers together under one roof.
The first edition of the festival was organized by Arunuj Films, with Khaas Talk serving as the official award sponsor. Founders Aslam Ansari and Sneha Tiwari expressed that supporting such initiatives helps nurture the next generation of filmmakers and contributes to the growth of independent cinema in India. Additional support came from NDK College, Kumar Bus Service, while Luxurious Dreams Magazine and Margodaya Newspaper served as media partners.
Celebrating Outstanding Films and Emerging Talent
The closing ceremony honoured exceptional achievements across multiple categories, recognizing excellence in storytelling, direction, editing, cinematography, acting, and innovation. Aditya Ahlawat’s Genda received the First Prize in the Best Short Fiction Film category, followed by Nakul Vashishtha’s Zakhm Singh in second place and Jo Kaha Nahin Gaya, directed by Vaibhav Kochar and Harshita Singla, in third.
In the documentary section, The Show Must Go On, directed by Arnav Phadke and Harsh Rathore, won the top honour, while Harshit Mishra’s Second Chance secured second place and Dhirendra Singh’s Jyotisar received third place. Individual honours were presented to Ravi Karnwal for Best Actor (Chappal), Nikhil Thyagarajan for Best Editor (Thandavam), Aman Tracy and Mayank Malu for Best Cinematography (Azadi Ke Rang), Arnav Phadke and Harsh Rathore for Best Director (The Show Must Go On), and Arnav Phadke for Best Story (Mukti).
The Vertical Cinema category recognized Rahul Sheikh’s India with the first prize, while Yahan Tak Kaise by Sagar Sharma and Debiprasad Pati secured second place. The Special Jury Awards were presented to Parth Khatri’s 48 and Sachin Goswami’s Maati Ki Mehak. All winners received trophies and certificates in recognition of their creative excellence.
The successful execution of the festival was made possible through the dedicated efforts of organizing committee members Sahil Kumar Sharma, Ashish Anand Srivastava, and Anisha, whose contributions ensured a smooth and memorable event for all participants.
