AICWA President Demands Justice for Worker’s Death on Anupamaa Set

A tragic incident occurred on the set of Anupamaa where a 32-year-old camera attendant lost his life due to electrocution. This incident is not just an unfortunate accident but a result of the negligence and greed of producers, production houses, and the channel. To save costs, these entities often use old, damaged, and poorly insulated electric wires patched together with plastic tape. Such unsafe practices put workers’ lives at constant risk and have caused numerous fatalities over the years, with no accountability from those responsible.

This time, justice must be served. Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis must take strict action. We demand the filing of murder charges against the producers, the production house, and the channel. Additionally, authorities such as the Film City Managing Director and Labour Commissioner must also be held accountable for failing to enforce safety measures, which allowed these hazardous conditions to persist.

Workers in the film industry are often treated as replaceable, with little regard for their lives. Producers and channels repeatedly neglect basic safety protocols, turning film sets into dangerous workplaces. Despite the worker’s death, filming continued until midnight and resumed the next day as if nothing had happened—highlighting the lack of respect for human life.

This issue is deeply rooted in a flawed system where government officials, Film City management, and labor authorities fail to take action. Their inaction makes them complicit in this ongoing exploitation and disregard for workers’ safety.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association stands in solidarity with film industry workers. We demand justice for the deceased worker, including ₹1 crore compensation for the family. It is time to hold all negligent parties accountable and ensure that worker safety and dignity are prioritized. This exploitation must end.
