Q1. How are young Indian consumers redefining luxury in menswear today?

This is the most connected generation India has ever produced. Travel and social media have shown them the world. They have seen how Tokyo dresses, how Milan finishes a collar, and what a premium fabric feels like. As a result, they understand clothing differently from previous generations. For them, luxury has moved beyond the logo and towards the substance. They care about the fabric, how it drapes, and how it feels.

Q2. What changes have you observed in consumer preferences when it comes to fabrics, quality, and craftsmanship?

Comfort has become the first filter. A part of this generation’s youth was spent in lockdown, and I think it changed how they view clothing. They want fashion that looks sharp but feels comfortable. They prefer softer, breathable fabrics over something stiff and purely formal. And because they’re well-informed, they notice details such as finishing and fabric quality. As a manufacturer, that’s exciting because craftsmanship finally gets noticed.

Q3. How is the growing demand for premium and sustainable fabrics influencing the textile industry?

It has moved sustainability beyond marketing and made it a core part of how businesses operate. The industry is investing more in certified supply chains, traceability, and quality control. We took that path early. D BADAMI is built around certifications such as GOTS, GRS, OEKO-TEX 100 Class 1, OCS, and RCS. We also keep weaving in-house to maintain quality and traceability. The focus has shifted from claims to proof, which is positive for the industry.

Q5. What role do fabrics play in helping brands create menswear that is both aspirational and responsible?

The fabric is where a garment’s story begins. If the base material is wrong, the promise breaks. Our job is to provide fabrics that help brands be aspirational in design and responsible in origin at the same time. Our “Never Out of Stock” program supports this by keeping key sustainable qualities in stock and dispatching bulk orders within 15 days. This helps brands avoid over-ordering and creating waste.

Q7. Do you see natural fibers and eco-conscious materials becoming a long-term trend in menswear?

I would avoid the word “trend.” This is a structural shift, not a seasonal change. Three factors are driving it: informed consumers, export markets that increasingly require certified and traceable supply chains, and the fact that natural fibers feel better. Cotton, linen, and Lyocell offer comfort that many synthetics cannot match. When awareness, regulation, and comfort are all moving in the same direction, this shift is likely to stay.

Q8. What are some key menswear trends you believe will shape the market over the next few years?

The biggest story is that India is creating its own premium brands. Young consumers aspire to wear homegrown labels such as Rare Rabbit, Jaywalking, and Bluorng with the same pride once reserved for international brands. Consumers are looking for a balance of style and comfort. Fabric-first dressing, texture and finish, and sustainability as an unspoken default will continue to shape the market. Coordinated menswear, kidswear, and resort shirting are also gaining momentum.
