The Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) successfully concluded a two-day Mashaal Master Trainer Programme at Rajgir on September 10, 2026, aimed at preparing physical education teachers and sports coaches for the effective implementation of Mashaal 2.0, one of the state’s major sports talent identification initiatives. More than 200 physical education teachers and coaches participated in the training programme, which focused on systematic talent identification, practical assessment, battery testing, player registration, and effective use of the Mashaal web portal.
Mashaal 2.0 to Begin on October 2
According to Shri Ravindran Shankaran, Director General-cum-Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar State Sports Authority, the second edition of Mashaal 2.0 will officially begin on October 2, 2026. School-level competitions will be conducted across Bihar from October 3 to December 31, followed by cluster and block-level competitions in January and district and state-level competitions in February. Students from government secondary and higher secondary schools will participate in the programme. Competitions will be organised in athletics, football, volleyball, kabaddi, and cycling for the Under-14 and Under-16 age categories.
Training in Talent Identification and Digital Assessment
The two-day master trainer programme was designed to equip participants with the practical knowledge required to identify sporting potential at the grassroots level. On the first day, participants were introduced to the Mashaal initiative and its objectives. Around 200 participants were divided into three groups and provided training on different aspects of the competition, including battery tests, player registration, data collection, and portal-based processes.
The second day focused on practical sessions and an interactive question-and-answer programme. Participants received hands-on guidance on conducting battery tests and resolving queries related to the Mashaal initiative and its digital portal. Teams of experienced coaches, including NIS athletics coaches, conducted the practical training, while technical experts provided guidance on portal operations and data management.
Training to Reach Schools Across Bihar
The trained master trainers will now conduct similar sessions for physical education teachers in their respective districts. These teachers will subsequently implement the talent identification process in their schools and work towards recognising students with sporting potential.
The Rajgir workshop brought together digital technology, physical assessment, and practical evaluation within a unified talent identification framework. By combining battery testing with portal-based registration and structured data collection, Mashaal 2.0 is expected to make grassroots sports talent identification more systematic, efficient, and evidence-based across Bihar.
