Bihar Athletes Make Strong Mark on Day Two of East Zone Junior Athletics Championship

Day 2 : Bihar State Secures 35 Medals with 14 Gold, 10 Silver and 11 Bronze

Patna, September 23, 2026: The young athletes of Bihar delivered an impressive performance on the second day of the 37th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship 2026, securing a total of 35 medals across a range of track and field disciplines.

The three-day championship is being conducted from September 22 to 24 at the Pataliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh, Patna, under the joint organisation of the Bihar State Sports Authority and the Bihar Athletics Association.

By the close of Day Two, Bihar had accumulated 14 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze medals, with athletes making their presence felt in sprinting, race walking, jumping, throwing, hurdles, relays, and combined events.

The championship has witnessed strong competition among athletes representing states from eastern and northeastern India

Strong Showing by Bihar’s Junior Athletes

Bihar athletes produced several notable podium finishes during the day. Aditya Chauhan emerged victorious in the Under-16 Boys’ Shot Put, while teammate Akash Kumar finished with a bronze medal.

In the Under-18 Boys’ Discus Throw, Bihar achieved a one-two finish, with Dev Raj taking gold and Amrit Raj Singh claiming silver. Ayush Raj added another gold medal by winning the Under-18 Boys’ Javelin Throw.

The sprinting contingent also delivered strong results. Prince Kumar secured the top position in the Under-20 Boys’ 100 metres, while Bihar athletes also featured prominently in the 4x100m relay.

Gold Medals in Race Walking and Field Events

Bihar’s strength was particularly visible in the race-walking events. Sunita Kumari won the Under-20 Girls’ 5000m Race Walk, while Saurabh Kumar and Ravishankar Kumar finished first and second, respectively, in the Under-20 Boys’ 5000m Race Walk.

In the Under-18 Boys’ Long Jump, Prem Raj secured the gold medal.

Another significant performance came from Rohit Raj, who won gold in the Under-16 Boys’ 80m Hurdles and later added a silver medal in the Under-16 Boys’ Long Jump.

Bihar Performs Across Combined Events

Bihar also registered podium finishes in the combined events.

In the Under-16 Boys’ Pentathlon, Mithilesh Kumar took silver, and Nikhil Kumar won bronze. In the Under-20 Boys’ Decathlon, Surya Roy secured silver while Amit Kumar finished with bronze.

The state’s athletes also earned medals in hammer throw, javelin throw, high jump, 400 m, 600 m, hurdles, and race walking events.

  • Jagriti Singh – Silver, Under-20 Girls’ Discus Throw
  • Mohammad Qadir – Silver, Under-20 Boys’ Hammer Throw
  • Tanu Kumari – Silver, Under-18 Girls’ 3000m Race Walk
  • Richa Kumari – Bronze, Under-18 Girls’ 3000m Race Walk
  • Alok Kumar – Silver, Under-18 Boys’ 5000m Race Walk
  • Ashika Kumari – Bronze, Under-18 Girls’ 400m
  • Birendra Yadav – Bronze, Under-20 Boys’ Javelin Throw
  • Ashok Kumar – Bronze, Under-16 Boys’ 600m
  • Yasmeen Parveen – Silver, Under-16 Girls’ High Jump
  • Nirmal Kumar – Bronze, Under-18 Boys’ 110m Hurdles

Bihar also finished third in the Under-20 Girls’ 4x100m Relay, while its Under-20 Boys’ relay team captured the gold medal.

Officials Ensure Smooth Conduct of Events

The competition is being conducted with the support of technical officials from the Athletics Federation of India and state athletics associations.

M. E. Shamsi, Technical Chairman of Bihar Athletics, along with officials including Nirmal Kumar, Raju Singh, Haroon Ansari, Yashwant Kumar Singh, Amit Kumar, Mohammad Saleh and Vinay Kumar Krishnan, has been associated with the technical management of the championship.

Officials and technical personnel from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar have also been deployed for various events.

Around 80 technical officials and supporting personnel have contributed to the conduct and supervision of the different competitions.

Final Day to Bring Championship to a Close

The championship will continue on September 24, with athletes competing in the remaining events and looking to add to their medal tally.

With performances across track, field and combined disciplines, the competition has provided junior athletes with an important platform to test themselves against competitors from across the East Zone.
