Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife, Dhanashree Verma, have finally bid each other goodbye after their divorce was granted on March 20 at the Mumbai Family Court. The two got married in December 2020 but had been staying apart since June 2022 owing to differences that could not be sorted out. After months of speculations regarding their troubled marriage, the two finally decided to seek divorce by mutual consent on February 5, 2025.

Special Relief Granted by High Court because of IPL Timings
In most cases, divorce cases in India entail a compulsory six-month cooling-off period to enable couples to change their minds before the separation is finalized. In Chahal’s case, however, due to his hectic schedule for the next IPL 2025 season, the Bombay High Court stepped in and issued an exception, exempting him from the cooling-off period. The court instructed the Family Court to hasten the process and issue a quick verdict to suit Chahal’s professional obligations.
Chahal’s T-shirt Court Controversy
Besides the court proceedings, Yuzvendra Chahal’s T-shirt-wear made headlines and was a conversation starter on social media. Chahal arrived at court donning a T-shirt with “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” written on it. The moment pictures and clips of him donning the T-shirt went on the internet, they went viral, and were met with half-hearted reactions on social media by netizens. While some social media users thought it was funny and light-hearted, others speculated that it had a deeper meaning, perhaps suggesting his new independence following the breakup.
Dhanashree Verma to Receive ₹4.75 Crore as Alimony
As a part of the divorce agreement, Yuzvendra Chahal needs to pay ₹4.75 crore as alimony to Dhanashree Verma. It is reported that he has already deposited ₹2.37 crore, and the remaining amount will be paid after the official court verdict. The monetary settlement was said to have been done amicably, so there are no more complications in the legal proceedings.
Chahal Resumes IPL 2025 Preparations Post-Divorce
In spite of his personal issues, Chahal is still set on his cricketing career. Punjab Kings purchased the star leg-spinner for a massive ₹18 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, one of the costliest acquisitions of the season. He had already begun training with the team but took a temporary break to complete his divorce proceedings in Mumbai. With his legal issues now settled, Chahal is ready to make his return to the game with determination as he devotes his full attention to his performance in the next IPL season.
