Malabar Group Partners with WHO India to Implement MoU

Mumbai, 19th September 2025: Malabar Group has launched a new CSR initiative, NURTURING BEGINNINGS, in collaboration with WHO India. The program focuses on improving nutrition and overall well-being for mothers and children in disadvantaged urban communities. It also supports the mental and intellectual development of young children.

MoU Signing and Key Attendees

The MoU was signed at Malabar Group’s headquarters in Kozhikode. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Roderico H. Ofrin, WHO Representative to India, and Dr. B. Muhammad Asheel, National Professional Officer of WHO. Senior Malabar Group leaders, including Chairman M.P. Ahammad and Managing Director Asher O, were also present. Members of Malabar’s management team, senior directors, and representatives from the NGO Thanal joined the event. The project will be executed through the Malabar Charitable Trust.

About NURTURING BEGINNINGS

This initiative expands on the Group’s flagship Hunger Free World program. Studies show that the first 1,000 days of a child’s life are critical for growth and development. To address this, the project will provide free nutritious food and essential medical services to mothers and children. It will begin in Delhi’s urban communities, with plans to expand across India.

Chairman M.P. Ahammad said, “Through this initiative, we expand the reach of our Hunger Free World project.”Proper nutrition during early years is vital for both mental and physical growth. Many communities lack access to these basic needs. Our partnership with WHO India highlights our commitment to a healthier society.”

Dr. Roderico H. Ofrin noted, “We applaud Malabar Group for introducing an initiative with such strong social impact.” Nutrition and care are fundamental rights of mothers and children. This project will help shape healthier future generations.”

Dr. Muhammad Asheel remarked, “This effort has the potential to uplift children in weaker sections of society. WHO India stands ready to assist.”

Malabar Group’s CSR Legacy

Since 1993, Malabar Group has allocated 5% of its profits to CSR programs. Its Hunger Free World project provides daily meals to 60,000 people in India and 10,000 students in Zambia. The Group has also established over 700 micro-learning centers, helping street children and dropouts return to school. Nearly 30,000 children have rejoined formal education.

Other initiatives include Grandma Home, which supports destitute mothers. Since 2007, over 1,15,000 scholarships have been awarded to girl students. This year, 33,000 more scholarships will be distributed. Malabar’s CSR work spans health, housing, education, women’s empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
