What is Albinism?
Albinism is a condition where people are born without enough color in their skin, hair, and eyes. This happens because their bodies do not make enough melanin, which gives color and protects the skin from sunlight. People with albinism have light skin and eyes and often face sunburn and poor eyesight. They are more likely to get skin problems, including skin cancer, without protection.

Why This Day Matters
Every year on June 13, people around the world observe International Albinism Awareness Day to support this cause. It helps the world understand the problems faced by people with albinism.
The 2025 theme is “Demanding our rights: Protect our skin, Preserve our lives.” It highlights the need for improved safety and healthcare for individuals with albinism.
They need sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and clothes that protect them from the sun. Many individuals with albinism often suffer from fear, violence, and discrimination caused by harmful myths and misunderstandings. This day reminds us that they deserve respect, safety, and equal rights. Governments should provide free or low-cost protection like sunscreen and checkups.
Schools and communities must also teach others about albinism to end the fear and hate. It is time to stand together and help people with albinism live safe and happy lives. International Albinism Awareness Day.
