Kisan Call Centres (KCCs) were launched in India. This initiative began on January 21, 2004. The aim was to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The main aims of the Kisan Call Centre (KCC) are:

  • To answer farmers’ queries.
  • To provide information via telephone.
  • To communicate in farmers’ local languages.

Bridging the Information Gap

The core objective of KCCs is clear. They provide answers to farmers’ queries. This happens over the telephone. Answers are given in 22 local languages.

A toll-free number, 1800-180-1551, is available. It connects farmers to experts. Agricultural specialists, called Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), staff these centers. They hold degrees in agriculture.

Calls are attended from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Services are available all seven days of the week.

Beyond immediate query resolution, KCCs facilitate farmer registration for personalized SMS advisories covering various agricultural, animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairying activities in their preferred language. They also register farmers’ preferences for market price updates. This comprehensive and technologically advanced support system truly empowers farmers, helping them make informed decisions and enhancing their overall productivity and well-being. The government continually monitors call volumes, ready to expand KCC presence as farmer demand grows.
