After establishing himself as a formidable creative force in advertising and regional cinema, filmmaker Yogesh Deshpande is now set to make his mark in mainstream Hindi cinema. His upcoming feature film, currently in pre-production, signals a significant turning point in his career. With casting underway and location recce completed, the film is expected to go on floors in the coming months.
A Creative Evolution Shaped by Storytelling
Deshpande’s move into Hindi films is a natural extension of a journey that began in advertising in 2005. Over the years, he has written and directed more than 100 ad films, earning recognition for his compelling visual language and strong narrative sensibilities. His entrepreneurial vision led to the creation of RedefineZ Concepts, which later grew into RedefineZ Productions, a Pune-based production house known for quality-driven content.
Sharing his thoughts on this transition, Deshpande said, “My journey from advertising to cinema has always been rooted in emotional honesty and cultural authenticity. I believe stories that are deeply personal often resonate the most with audiences. Entering mainstream Hindi cinema feels like a natural progression — an opportunity to tell stories that are intimate yet universal. This film reflects contemporary realities shaped by technology, change, and human relationships, while remaining grounded in real-life experiences.”
From Acclaimed Biopics to a Bold Hindi Debut
Before stepping into Hindi cinema, Deshpande explored long-format storytelling with 66 Sadashiv. He followed it with the widely appreciated musical biopic Swaragandharvaa Sudhir Phadke, based on the life of legendary composer Sudhir Phadke. The film was noted for its musical richness, featuring original songs rendered by iconic voices such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, Kishore Kumar, and Phadke himself. The biopic was released across five countries and earned critical acclaim along with international recognition.
His forthcoming Hindi feature carries forward the same storytelling philosophy. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Konkan region, the film delves into the social and emotional dimensions of the digital divide — a subject rarely explored in commercial Hindi cinema. Anchored by a strong female lead, the narrative promises emotional complexity woven into a visually rich setting.
