Introduction to Van Mahotsav
Every year in India, Van Mahotsav is observed for a week to promote tree plantation. It usually begins on July 1st. In Hindi, “Van Mahotsav” translates to the “Festival of Forests.” It was started in 1950 by K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minister for Agriculture. The festival mainly aims to make people aware of how vital trees are for our survival.
During Van Mahotsav, people are encouraged to plant more trees. Schools, colleges, government offices, and communities take part in this green mission. This event reminds us that trees are very important for our life and the environment.

Importance of Tree Plantation
Trees provide us with oxygen, fruits, shade, and shelter to many birds and animals. They also help to clean the air. Planting trees helps reduce air pollution and fights climate change. Trees prevent soil erosion and help to keep the land strong.
In today’s time, forests are being cut for development. This leads to rising global temperatures and more frequent natural calamities. Van Mahotsav encourages us to protect nature by planting more trees. It is a step towards making our earth green and healthy again.
Many students and volunteers plant saplings during this festival. It sends a powerful message about protecting and respecting the environment. It also helps the younger generation understand their role in protecting the environment.
Conclusion
Van Mahotsav goes beyond celebration—it’s a duty towards nature. It reminds us that small actions can bring back changes. Every tree we plant today will help us tomorrow. Let us all take part in this green movement and plant more trees. A greener earth means a better future for everyone.
