A Personal Journey Through Art and Memories
Opening on June 23, 2025, at the famous Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, Ink & Kin is the first solo exhibition by artist Sushma Kothari. The show runs until July 6, 2025. This exhibition is a personal reflection of Kothari’s journey between two cities close to her heart—Mumbai and San Francisco.
The exhibition presents a series of printmaking works that explore themes of family, place, and memory. Inspired by daily life, nature, and cultural traditions, the artist captures quiet moments from her surroundings and personal life on paper. Her work reflects a sense of love, care, and attention to detail.

Finding Her Voice in Printmaking
Kothari started as a painter but later found her true calling in printmaking. She studied art in both Mumbai and San Francisco, where she honed her skills in carving linoleum plates. Her prints are full of fine textures and delicate details, showing landscapes, family bonds, and everyday beauty.
Artists and educators admire her gentle style. Mahendra Damle, from Rachana Sansad Academy of Fine Arts, describes her work as full of sensitivity and joy. Mexican artist Jesús “Txutxo” Pérez adds that love is the driving force behind her art—whether it is love for nature, family, or her cultural roots.
A Special Tribute to Kashmir
A highlight of this exhibition is a new series based on her recent trip to Kashmir. Captivated by the region’s beauty and people, she created prints that reflect its stunning valleys, colorful flowers, and peaceful yet fragile environment. Some of the key works from this series include:
- Blooms of the Valley Kashmir
- Lilies Beside My Floating Home
- Shikara at Dal Lake Srinagar
- Chopan – Shepherd at Doodhpatri
- Dras River – Srinagar-Leh Highway
- St. Mary’s Church, Gulmarg Market
Kothari visited Kashmir during a difficult time, as she and her companions experienced a terror attack in Pahalgam. This experience deepened her emotional connection to the place. To help the local community, part of the sales from the Kashmir prints will support education for children in the region.
Sushma Kothari says, “These prints carry not just the beauty of Kashmir but also my feelings for its people and landscapes. They are filled with love and respect.”
