5 April, Rajgir : Khelo India Youth Games 2025 began with high energy at the newly built Rajgir Sports Complex in Nalanda, Bihar. Bihar’s Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar lit the ceremonial torch to inaugurate the event. MP Kaushalendra Kumar and MLC Reena Yadav also attended as special guests.
Thrilling Matches Mark Day One
Day one featured nail-biting kabaddi clashes that had fans on the edge of their seats. In the U-18 girls Pool A match, Haryana edged past Punjab 33-32 in a tense showdown. Meanwhile, Haryana boys outplayed Karnataka 57-31, displaying power and precision.


Last-Minute Drama and Draws
Bihar and Assam girls ended their game in a 33-33 draw after a balanced and intense battle. The boys’ match between Maharashtra and Rajasthan delivered edge-of-the-seat drama. Rajasthan led 25-18 at halftime, but Maharashtra made a stunning comeback to win 46-45.
Athletes Credit ‘Khelo India’ for Support
Jai Hind, captain of Haryana’s boys’ team, praised the Khelo India initiative. He said the scheme gave youth a global-standard platform with excellent facilities in Rajgir. Minister Shravan Kumar highlighted Bihar’s policy that awards government jobs to medal-winning athletes. He said it’s driving youth to pursue sports seriously and bring pride to the state.

Eight States Compete, City Buzzes with Excitement
Athletes from eight states are competing over 12 days from May 4–15. Hotels, restaurants, and tourist sites in Rajgir are bustling with athletes and their families.

This marks Bihar’s first time hosting such a major sports event. The government hopes it will enhance the state’s sports ecosystem and promote tourism in the historic city of Rajgir.
